TAKE AN APPEAL!

NYCLA-logo_2009_nyreblog_com_.gifAre you interested in participating in a Pro Bono Appeals program?

The Subcommittee on Pro Bono Appeals of NYCLA's Appellate Courts Committee is in the process of developing a pro bono appeals program involving one of the two following types of appeals:

  1. Appeals from the Appellate Term to the Appellate Division, First Department.
    Pro bono
attorneys would represent clients in cases in which the First Department has granted leave to appeal from a decision of the Appellate Term. Most would be landlord-tenant cases. Pro bono attorneys would prepare the appellate briefs and argue the appeal before the First Department.
  2. Appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals. Pro bono attorneys would represent clients in immigration appeals from the Immigration Court to the Board of Immigration Appeals. Pro bono attorneys would prepare the appellate briefs for submission to the Board of Immigration Appeals. The pro bono attorney also would have the opportunity, subject to the client's consent, to represent the client in any subsequent appeal to the Second Circuit.

If you are interested in serving as pro bono counsel in one or both of these types of appeals, please email Megan P. Davis at mdavis@fzwz.com . Please specify in your email if you would prefer working on appeals to the First Department or appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals.
