Dear Lucas,
I thought you might be interested in a brief update of what I've been working on lately.
• I took on the city's Finance Commissioner for sending out 15,000 erroneous tax bills that put seniors at risk of losing their homes. If the rent subsidy program isn't fixed by January, tens of thousands of low income seniors could be evicted. Read more in the NY Post here .
• The Daily News worked with us on a sting operation to catch rule-breaking taxis that use their off-duty light to refuse fares, which you can read about here . This should lead to greater enforcement - and I'm introducing a bill today to make it harder for cabbies to skirt the spirit of the law.
• My TrafficStat bill is now in effect, which means New Yorkers now have access to important data online. Click here to read the Wall Street Journal story on the importance of making these safety stats available to the public.
• And, Mayor Bloomberg has signed my bill to help more homeless cats and dogs find loving homes in the city. Read more in the NY Post here .
As always, please let me know if there is anything on your mind.
Best,
Jessica Lappin
