GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT

Take Action

Tell Congress:
Keep your
priorities straight
Take Action
Dear Lucas,

In 2010, food stamps (now called SNAP -- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) lifted 1.7 million children out of poverty. That's more than any other program, and more than any year in history. Simply put, connecting kids with nutritious meals works.

But now the new federal "super committee" has been given the task of cutting $1.5 trillion from the federal budget -- and SNAP and other critical anti-hunger and anti-poverty programs are on the table.

It's critical that we take action today. Please stand up and make sure Congress knows not to cut off kids when they need us most.

Years of terrible economic news have led to the current situation, and major budget cuts are inevitable. But the same sluggish economy, job losses and lack of opportunity have hit families hard: more people depend on SNAP now than ever before. That means that there couldn't be a more dangerous time to remove this critical lifeline from kids who need it.

Let me be clear: this is a major threat to these kids. Their lives, their well-being, and their futures are at stake in a very real way. Kids who grow up eating nutritious meals succeed in school, in their communities, and in their lives.

There is good news, though. In just one minute, you can make a major difference. Let's take action today and make sure Congress knows we're watching.

Thank you for all you do to support Share Our Strength.

Sincerely,
