We are pleased to welcome Landmarks Preservation Commission Chair Robert Tierney to sit with City Hall Editor, Adam Lisberg as part of our News Makers breakfast series. The Landmarks Preservation Commission is the New York City agency responsible for identifying and designating the City's landmarks and the buildings in the City's historic districts. The Commission also regulates changes to designated buildings.
The Landmarks Law was enacted in response to New Yorkers' growing concern that important architecturally distinguished physical elements of the City's history were increasingly being demolished. However in recent years those concerns have increasingly pushed against the challenges of the City's growing and evolving neighborhoods.
Part of the discussion will be current practices and how the role of Landmarks has changed throughout the years, and where it is headed. Also discussed will be past projects and designations and how those have held up in the court of public opinion and beyond.
We hope you can join us for this discussion.
