Markowitz Press Release.JPGBrooklyn: Kensington/Windsor Terrace

Neighbors Launch K9WaTch to Create Safer Community

In Response to Ongoing Sexual Assaults in Our Neighborhood

K9WaTch was formed in October 2011 in response to assaults, attempted assaults, and muggings in the Kensington/Windsor Terrace area of Brooklyn and is launching its "watchdog" program at a neighborhood party this Saturday, November 12, 2011.

A group of concerned neighbors met up after connecting on our neighborhood email list, and decided to join forces to make our neighborhood safer. Dog owners and non-dog-owners alike will don brightly colored bandanas and create increased neighborly presence at subway stops and on dark streets in the evenings. Our presence as a caring neighborhood collective discourages crime by creating awareness and promoting watchfulness in our community.

WHO: Concerned Kensington Windsor Terrace neighbors and our dogs

WHAT: Party, neighbor meet and greet, and special presentation of bandanas to canine volunteers and their owners

WHEN: Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 5 pm to 7 pm

WHERE: Brooklyn Commune, 601 Greenwood Avenue, at the corner of Prospect Avenue, and outside at the Fort Hamilton Parkway F/G subway station

PHOTO OP: We will distribute our brightly colored K9WaTCH bandanas to volunteers and their dogs. K9WaTch organizers will be available for comment, and volunteers and dogs will be present as interview and photo/video subjects.
