THOMPSON 2013

Bill Thompson for Mayor

Dear Lucas

You may have seen the recent stories in New York Magazine or the New York Observer about the 2013 mayoral race, but I want you to hear it directly from me: I'm running for Mayor.

I get asked a lot about the last election and how close we came to making history--but for me, the 2009 race is in the past, and I'm not running for the past. I'm running for the future of this city--of every New Yorker in every borough--and that's what I want this race to be about.

Over the next two years, I hope to build a campaign of ideas--to not merely run for Mayor but to advance a long-overdue discussion on the challenges facing our great city. It's clear that we need compelling and innovative approaches to our most pressing concerns: public safety, education, transportation, affordability, and more.

As the campaign continues, you can expect to hear from me with my thoughts on these issues--and I look forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions, as well. My team will also be in touch with you regularly, with updates from the campaign trail, links to articles of interest, event announcements, volunteer opportunities, and more. We've got a lot to do over the next two years, and you will be an integral part of our efforts.

In the meantime, I want to invite you to our first major event of the campaign season--it will be a fundraiser on Monday, December 5, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Hudson Hotel in Manhattan. You can find more information by going here . It would be terrific if you could join us there--and even if you're unable to attend, it would mean a lot to me if you would make a contribution to my campaign, which you can do by going here .

I hope to see you on December 5 and I look forward to having you join me on the road to 2013. Thank you for all that you do.

Best,

Bill Thompson
