JOIN'S KOREA'S 99%

public_citizen_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgStand in Solidarity with the 99% in Korea

Last month, Congress passed the damaging trade agreement with Korea--a deal set to expand America's failed trade policy. After years of delaying the vote, increasing public opposition to this flawed pact and record numbers of Democratic opposition, the interests of the 1% trumped the 99%.

But in a surprising and inspiring twist, the vote on the deal has been delayed in Korea. The opposition in Korea has remained resilient against the trade agreement. The Korean Alliance against the KorUS Free Trade Agreement (KOA)--comprised of grassroots, labor and civil-society groups--along with students, Occupiers in Seoul, and dissenting politicians have successfully delayed the trade vote. On the ground, the opposition has been holding daily mass demonstrations and candle-light vigils, while constantly confronted by police forces. Their admirable resistance to a trade deal that is celebrated by Wall Street Banksters and corporate bosses gives us a second chance to stop the Korea trade pact before it goes into effect. While KOA and our friends in Korea plan to pull out all the stops in a large-scaled protest this weekend, they invite us to join this history-making movement and stand in solidarity with the people of Korea on November 22nd.

What: An international day of solidarity with the 99% in Korea against the US-Korea trade deal, the biggest job-killing agreement of its kind since NAFTA.

When: Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Noon - 2 PM

How: Gather fellow fair trade activists and join Trade Justice NY Metro in a demonstration.

Where: Korean Consulate, 335 E. 45th St. between 1st & 2nd Aves

Directions: 4, 5, 6, or Times Square Shuttle to Grand Central-42 St. Lexington Ave.

Get inspired! Take this second opportunity to show President Obama, our leaders in Congress, and the greedy corporations that the majority will continue to fight against the current flawed trade policy here and abroad.

Thanks for all you do,

Beatriz
