OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: INTERNATIONAL MIGRANTS DAY, DECEMBER 18As issues surrounding immigration and immigrants' rights take on an increasingly central role in our current political discourse, Creative Time offers a unique way to get involved in the discussion. Immigrant Movement International (IM International), an ongoing project initiated by artist Tania Bruguera and co-presented by Creative Time and the Queens Museum of Art, has announced an open call for submissions for actions that will take place on December 18, 2011, designated "International Migrants Day" by the United Nations. The organizers call on artists, immigrants, activists, and any interested members of the general public to stage an action on December 18, 2011 at 2PM local time in recognition of the concept of transnational migrants as a "global class" united across continents and cultures by common political and social conditions, as well as by the human experience of being a migrant. As part of the December 18 initiative, IM International has provided a "Migrant's Manifesto," a document produced by immigration academics, activists, politicians and community members at a weekend convening at IM International headquarters in Queens earlier this month. Participants in the December 18 global action are encouraged to read the document aloud as part of their action or in lieu of creating an original action. By engaging participants across the globe in this UN-endorsed project, IM International hopes to promote understanding of the specificity of local migration issues and the political interconnectedness across nations and regions that migration engenders. To participate, read the "Migrant's Manifesto," and track global actions as the project unfolds in real time on December 18, visit IM International's website at http://immigrant-movement.us/december18/ and submit your plan of action.
