Follow Holiday Food Safety Tips
Don't give your Thanksgiving guests more than they bargained for. Be sure to thaw , prepare and cook your turkey properly to prevent food poisoning:
- Thaw in the refrigerator, cold water or microwave, never out on the counter.
- Prepare wet and dry stuffing ingredients separately and combine just before placing in the turkey or a casserole dish. If you stuff the turkey, stuff it loosely and cook immediately.
- Check the innermost part of the thigh and wing and the thickest part of the breast with a food thermometer to make sure they reach at least 165°F. The stuffing should also reach 165°F, whether cooked inside the bird or in a dish.
- Refrigerate leftover stuffing and turkey separately in shallow containers within two hours of cooking. Eat or freeze within three to four days.
