Charter Schools
Charter schools are public schools that operate with freedom from many of the local and state regulations that apply to traditional public schools. Although the local school district approves the charter school, these public schools are self-managed.
Charter schools allow parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, and others the flexibility to innovate and provide students with increased educational options within the public school system. Parents, teachers, community leaders, and colleges or universities help create and control them. Charter schools operate free from many educational mandates, except for those concerning nondiscrimination, health and safety, and accountability.
