As Big Business and its allies in Congress try to undermine vital public protections, Public Citizen is bringing the leaders of important regulatory agencies to our headquarters for open discussions with our members, the media and the public.
In just the past few months, we've hosted these key regulators:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration head David Michaels
- Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Gary Gensler
- Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement Director Michael Bromwich
- Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Gregory Jaczko
They know that when they come to Public Citizen, they are going to face hard questions. We've challenged them to crack down on corporate wrongdoing and take stronger action to protect the public.
Our message, in short: Be tougher.
These meetings are steps in a process of reinforcing the progress made by regulators while also pushing them to be even more diligent about prioritizing the needs of the public over the greed of Big Business.
No less is at stake than clean air and water; safe food, medicines, cars and other products; workplaces that don't risk our health or our lives; protections from banking and other consumer rip-offs; and much more.
In the coming months, we'll host more top policymakers. We'll keep asking them the hard questions and pushing them to do the right thing. And we'll keep you apprised of unfolding developments.
Stay tuned.
