THE DARK AGES

emily's_list_email_banner_nyreblog_com_.gifDear Lucas,

Take Action! The GOP's war on women never stops. Their latest outrage? Just yesterday, the Republican-led House passed H.R. 3, the bogusly named "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act." Let's be absolutely clear about this extremist, anti-woman bill: it would make it difficult for women to get abortion coverage from private insurers, raise taxes on small businesses, and even compel the IRS to audit rape survivors.

American voters spoke clearly last November, and the message could not have been clearer: jobs, jobs, jobs. But after taking control of the House in January, the GOP quickly abandoned the needs of everyday citizens and instead focused like a laser beam on what's become a relentless war on women.

Frankly, I've seen some appalling Republican maneuvers over the years, but their current siege on women's rights and health is unprecedented in its cruelty and extreme ideology. Let's not forget: the Republicans were ready to shut down the federal government over funding for Planned Parenthood's preventive care!

H.R. 3 is moving on to the Senate, and we must act immediately to stop this outrageous legislation. Click here to join our Stop the War on Women campaign and tell the Senate to stand up against H.R. 3.

The worst part is that H.R. 3 is only one heinous facet of their war on women. House Republicans have been feverishly churning out bill after bill that impinges on our rights, our health, and our constitutionally protected right to choose. We simply cannot stand idly by while the GOP ignores the pressing issues facing our nation and instead undermines decades of progress for American women and families.

Make your voice heard: H.R. 3 is a direct assault on women's health and freedom, and the Senate must stop it in its tracks. Sign our Stop the War on Women petition today to join thousands of others who are standing up to the GOP's anti-woman agenda.

Now is the time to make sure we send an unequivocal message to the Republicans who'd like to send women back to the dark ages: your appalling ideology is unacceptable, and we're not going to shut up and sit down. By combining our voices, we truly can make a difference in the lives of women across this country. We're fighting back in this war, and we're not going to let up. Join us today.

Sincerely,
Amy K. Dacey
