Shred Fest is a free, annual City event to help New Yorkers prevent identity theft. At Shred Fest you can:
- Safely shred documents containing personal information for free using mobile shredding trucks
- Get free identity theft prevention tips
The first four people to arrive with their personal papers at each Shred Fest location will receive a free paper shredder, donated by Staples. View the list of locations and download the Shred Fest flyer in English and Spanish
What should you start collecting to shred?
- Bank statements that are at least one year old and do not contain tax-related information
- Pay stubs (only after you receive your Form W-2)
- Credit card applications
- Any documents that contain any of the following personal information: your Social Security Number, account numbers, password/PIN information, birth date, private contact information, and signature
Special thanks to Brink's Document Destruction, Cintas, PROSHRED, Shred-it, and Shred Services for donating the mobile shredding trucks for the event, and to Staples for its generous donation of personal shredders.
