 8:45 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.

THURSDAY, MAY 5

BROOKLYN BOROUGH HALL

209 JORALEMON STREET
BETWEEN COURT AND ADAMS STREETS
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN

On Thursday, May 5, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Deputy Borough President Yvonne Graham will join Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, the NYC Elder Abuse Center, NYC HRA Commissioner Robert Doar and NYC Department for the Aging Commissioner Lilliam Barrios-Paoli for the "Brooklyn Fights Elder Abuse" forum at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

Over 100 professionals will attend the forum on elder abuse in Brooklyn, discussing new strategies to protect older adults. Despite many efforts, elder abuse continues to be a growing problem.  The DA's Elder Abuse Unit prosecutes approximately 300 cases of physical abuse each year. The most common offenders are those who are closest to these seniors--their children and grandchildren. But a large number of elder abuse crimes go unreported. A goal of the forum is to stress that fighting this abuse must be a community effort as we continue to train people on how to recognize and address crimes against seniors.
