Lucas,
Elizabeth Warren has her work cut out for her.
She's spearheading the creation of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau -- the agency designed to crack down on unfair, deceptive practices in financial products like mortgages, student loans and credit cards.
Elizabeth Warren's role as creator of the bureau, her willingness to stand up to Wall Street and her experience as an advocate for consumers make her the obvious choice to be the agency's first director.
Tell President Obama: Nominate Elizabeth Warren to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
On a recent episode of the Daily Show, Warren told Jon Stewart that reform opponents were attempting to "stick a knife in the ribs" of the new consumer agency. (1)
She explained: "Right now there are bills pending in Congress to delay the agency, to defund the agency, to defang the agency and ... to kill the agency outright before it is able to take one step on behalf of middle class families."
We need a strong Consumer Financial Protection Bureau with a leader dedicated to cracking down on abuses and protecting borrowers.
A big reason we have suffered through the financial crisis and Great Recession is that banking agencies were looking out for short-term profits at big banks -- not looking out for consumers, investors or economic stability.
We need a strong Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to crack down on abuses and protect borrowers.
Tell Obama to appoint Elizabeth Warren.

"In recent weeks there has been a strong, growing belief in Washington that the president will nominate Warren to head new bureau," wrote David Arkush, director of Public Citizen's Congress Watch division, on the Huffington Post. "Public Citizen has been urging Obama to nominate her since last summer, and saying it's a fight worth having. If the American public gets more exposure to her, they will love her." (2)
