Dear Lucas,

When the governor signs the budget next week will parents, students and education activists be rejoicing because their schools were spared from another round of devastating cuts?
Or will the Millionaires and Wall Streeters who caused the financial meltdown be twirling their mustaches and counting their money?

Governor Cuomo could spare our public schools from nearly all of the 1.5 billion proposed cuts, helping ensure that our kids have access to quality schools, after school programs and tutoring to help them succeed, just by renewing the Millionaire's Tax.

Renewing the Millionaire's Tax this year would produce 1 billion dollars worth of income to the state; income that could be put towards lessening the cuts to our kids schools. Sounds like an easy fix right?

Renewing the Millionaire's Tax is not asking a lot. New Yorkers who make more than 1 million dollars a year already pay more than 2% less taxes that middle class New Yorkers! And they are already paying the Millionaire's Tax. Yep! By not renewing the Millionaire's Tax in the budget, Governor Cuomo is actually giving a TAX BREAK to the wealthiest New Yorkers and paying for it with money that should belong to our kids education.

This is not right.

Would you rather live in a New York that provides for Wall Street or a New York that provides for the education all our kids deserve?  That's what I thought.
