Dear Lucas,

The Republicans have made it clear: Their budget is about advancing an extremist agenda that includes waging a war on women's health.

There is only one way they can succeed. They have to win four more Senate seats and take control of the U.S. Senate. We must not let that happen.

Take it from me: The Republicans and their right-wing allies will use everything they've got to win in 2012. They will have third party groups funded by unlimited secret donations. They will have their champions -- from Palin to Beck. And they will have troops of Tea Partiers.

I know because I saw it personally in 2010, and it was brutal. They threw everything but the kitchen sink at me. But I had something far more powerful -- you! I always knew that I could count on EMILY's List to help me fight back. And, EMILY's List was there for me -- every step of the way.

We must be even stronger this time around. Six of my pro-choice Democratic female colleagues in the Senate are up for re-election, and they need our help -- now! They will all be targeted for defeat by the far right. Why? Because the extremists know that these Democratic women will never back down when it comes to standing up for women.

It's outrageous that Republicans are pushing an agenda that endangers women and families. How can they justify voting to defund Planned Parenthood and Title X, which would deny cancer screenings, HIV tests, and family planning to millions of women? How can they justify raising taxes for businesses and women who want health insurance plans that cover a full range of reproductive services? How can they justify trying to repeal health care reform?

They can't justify any of it, and yet the GOP is moving full steam ahead with their extreme agenda. And our slim Democratic Senate majority is the only thing stopping them.
