Women's Rights Committee Presents the Edith I. Spivack Award to Kathryn Kolbert, Esq. on April 4
You are invited to the award presentation on Monday, April 4 at 6:00 PM at the NYCLA Home of Law, 14 Vesey Street. Kathryn Kolbert, Esq. will receive the Edith I. Spivack Award in recognition of the pivotal role she has played in advancing the status of women and women's rights.
Kathryn Kolbert, Esq.
Kathryn Kolbert is the director of the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College, a new center dedicated to advancing women's leadership.She argued the landmark case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1992 and has been credited with saving the landmark decision, Roe v. Wade. Prior to working at Barnard, Professor Kolbert spent a year in Washington, D.C. as president and CEO of People for the American Way and People for the American Way Foundation, two of the nation's premier civil rights organizations. From 1998-2008, she oversaw a program on law and American life at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center. Professor Kolbert has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a public interest attorney specializing in women's rights. Professor Kolbert graduated cum laude from Temple University School of Law and received her B.A. from Cornell University's School of Arts and Sciences.
Edith I. Spivack, Esq. (1910-2005)
Ms. Spivack actively recruited outstanding women attorneys to NYCLA's Women's Rights Committee and played a significant role in advocating for the equal treatment of women. Ms. Spivack, who graduated from Columbia Law School, worked for the New York City Department of Law for 70 years.
