Dear Amy,
It's incredible: just when you think the GOP couldn't get any more clueless about what American families need and care about, the Pence Amendment -- which prevents any federal funding of Planned Parenthood -- passes in the U.S. House. Instead of job creation in these tough times, Cong. Pence and his Republican cronies are fixated on their anti-woman agenda -- and who's paying the price? Millions of American women and their families.
Now that the Pence Amendment is in the hands of the Senate, our community must act right now to make sure our strong opposition is heard. To protect preventative, life-saving care for women and their families, it's up to us to act immediately by taking a stand so the Senate can defeat this outrageous bill. EMILY's List's women senators are fighting for us on this bill, and we want them to know that we're with them as they push back against the GOP agenda that jeopardizes women's health and rights.
The GOP-led House is focusing like a laser on shredding women's rights, limiting choice, and even preventing us from getting basic preventative care from providers like Planned Parenthood. I'm not going to mince words: this is an all-out assault on women's health on every front, from getting life-saving health care like cancer screenings, access to contraception, and our ability to pay for abortions even with private insurance. More than ever, we need to stand behind our women senators who'll be fighting for our values and our rights.
Time and again, the GOP will look for ways to turn the clock back on our rights -- but we are ready to fight back, and so are our women in Congress.
