FRENCH KISS

00427586.jpgIn John Galliano, S.A. v. Stallion, Inc. , Galliano wanted to have a French judgment enforced in New York State.

Although it hadn't appeared before the French court, and a default judgment had been entered, Stallion argued that the judgment was unenforceable because the legal papers it received were in French, rather than in English.

Since the company had agreed to the French court's jurisdiction, and had "sufficient time" to prepare a defense, our state's highest court found Stallion's objections unpersuasive. (The judgment did "not run afoul of [the Court of Appeals's] conception of personal jurisdiction or [its] notion of fairness.").

That Stallion sure got gelded.
