Civil Legal Services in France -

What Can the United States Learn?

On Monday, June 27 at 6:00 PM, the NYCLA Justice Center is hosting a free public forum, Civil Legal Services in France - What Can the United States Learn? , at the NYCLA Home of Law, 14 Vesey Street, featuring a discussion of the civil legal service system France has developed, including the tensions within that system about funding and the allocation of services among potential litigants, particularly in light of recent budget cuts.

Unlike in France, the United States has no civil Gideon, no federal constitutional guarantee of representation for poor people facing potentially serious consequences from civil litigation. Panelists will focus on strategies for expanding access to civil legal services in New York and around the United States in a difficult economic climate.

 Panelists

Executive Director, National Center for Access to Justice, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law

Hon. Fern Fisher
