Schumer: Mike Green Has Had A Distinguished Legal Career, Is Even-Handed and Insightful, and Will Make a Terrific Judge

Yesterday, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that Monroe District Attorney Mike Green's nomination to serve as a judge in the Western District federal court has been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The nomination will now proceed to the full Senate for a final confirmation vote. Schumer recommended D.A. Green to President Obama, who officially nominated Green for the post. Mike Green is a lifelong public servant who has spent the last two decades working to protect the residents of Monroe County from murderers, drunk drivers, thieves and other criminals of every stripe. He has also been a pillar of the community, working with the Boys and Girls club to promote literacy and serving on boards for Families and Friends of Murdered Children, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. DA Green is being tapped to replace retiring U.S. District Court Judge David G. Larimer. As per federal court directives, the nominee will sit and hear cases in Rochester.

"I am pleased the committee has approved Mike Green's nomination, and look forward to a final Senate vote to install him on the federal bench where he belongs," said Schumer. "Mike's lifetime of service protecting the people of Rochester and western New York has prepared him well for a federal judgeship, and I am confident he will excel in that job. His moderate and thoughtful approach to the law will be a tremendous asset to the Western District Court."

Mike Green has been Monroe County District Attorney since January 1, 2004 and prior to that was an Assistant District Attorney for 17 years. For three of those years, he was responsible for all homicide prosecutions in Monroe County, and has also been Capital Crimes Prosecutor, Deputy Chief of the Major Felony Bureau, Chief of the DWI Bureau, and trial attorney in the Major Felony Bureau.

Mr. Green has also focused on improving law enforcement across the country, and has served as a faculty member for the National College of District Attorneys at the National Advocacy Center. He has also lectured for the New York Prosecutors Training Institute, the Monroe County Bar Association, the Monroe County District Attorney's Office, the Monroe County Criminal Justice Training Center, the New York State Law Enforcement Training Directors, the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, and many others.

The Western District of New York encompasses the following counties: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates.
