Marriage Equality & LGBT Community Report

Dear New Yorker,

Our phone calls, letters, postcards, and other activities in support of marriage equality are paying off.  A recent New York Same-Sex Marriage Poll shows support at a new all-time high:

Our work is far from over, though.

On Monday, June 20th, the NY State Legislature will end its 2011 legislative session.

It's critical that we continue to volunteer and call our undecided senators and urge them to pass a marriage equality bill now.

Below are several actions that people can take to help make sure this happens before the 2011 state legislative session ends on June 20th.

In this Issue:

PHONE BANKING FOR EQUAL MARRIAGE RIGHTS

VOLUNTEER FOR A "STOP AND DIAL" IN QUEENS

NY BUSINESS FOR MARRIAGE

The Empire State Pride Agenda (ESPA) continues to recruit for their new online marriage equality initiative aimed specifically at New York's business community called NY Business for Marriage.

According to recent estimates, marriage equality could generate anywhere from $184 million to $310 million in economic activity for weddings and tourism in New York State.

NY Business for Marriage gives the business community a chance to tell the public that what is good for equality is good for business! Activists throughout the state are reaching out to businesses in their own backyards.

ESPA is encouraging all New Yorkers to take part in this exciting new initiative by having their business or businesses in their area fill out the form  online .

For more information about NY Business for Marriage, please contact Desma Holcomb at ESPA by phone at (212) 627-0305 or by e-mail  dholcomb@prideagenda.org .

SHOW YOUR PRIDE THIS MONTH AND MARCH FOR EQUALITY

Please feel free to contact the City Council's LGBT and HIV/AIDS Liaison, Carlos Menchaca, if you have any questions or would like to learn more about our fight for marriage equality.  You can reach him by phone at (212) 788-5646 or by e-mail at  cmenchaca@council.nyc.gov .

Thanks for taking a stand for marriage equality!

Sincerely,

Christine C. Quinn
