Difficulty in walking is one of the largest problems that people with Parkinson's disease face. But researchers say walking on a treadmill at a comfortable pace might help them cope.

The researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore looked at 67 people with Parkinson's who had trouble walking and getting around. Two groups used treadmills; one group did a lower pace and a longer duration than the other. A third group did some stretching and leg exercises.

Researcher Lisa Shulman:

``Our study does show that exercise over three months did improve mobility and improve function in people with Parkinson's Disease.'' (9 seconds)

The study presented at a meeting of the American Academy of Neurology was supported by the National Institutes of Health.
