On Monday, June 13, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz hosted the spring 2011 Brooklyn Economic Development Summit in the newly renovated Brooklyn Community Room at Borough Hall. The keynote speaker was Robert Steel, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development. Also in attendance was Sean Luckman, Starbucks Regional Director of Operations, and leaders in Brooklyn's business community.

"Manufacturing is what we need for Brooklyn's labor base, and the best way for us to fight unemployment, which in some parts of Brooklyn is double the national average," said BP Markowitz. "To help accomplish this goal, I call on the administration to harness the economic might available through the power of procurement."
