Sign-on to Open Letter to President Obama on DREAM Act Student Support During Puerto Rico Visit
Note: Roberto Lovato of Presente.org asked NiLP to circulate this request for prominent Puerto Rican and other Latino leaders to sign on to an open letter to President Obama during his June 14th visit to Puerto Rico to support the DREAM Act students. The letter seeks relief from the President from the precarious situation these students face. As you know, the lack of Comprehensive Immigration Reform has left DREAMers even more vulnerable to family separation, persecution and deportation at the hands of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE).
As part of its ongoing support for DREAM Act students and because President Obama will be in Puerto Rico, Presente and thousands of its members are taking out a full-page ad in El Nuevo Dia newspaper asking President Obama to use his executive authority to stop the deportation of young people eligible under the DREAM Act.
If you would like to sign-on to this letter, please contact Roberto at robvato@gmail.com by Friday morning, June 10, 2011
As Roberto put it: "These young people are our future and we no longer wish for our communities to be separated. Thank you for considering our request."
