Thank you for standing with me to demand a City budget that is fair and responsible - for all New Yorkers.
More than four months ago, the Mayor announced a budget plan that would have resulted in millions of dollars in reckless cuts to childcare, teachers, firehouses, and other essential City services.
Parents, teachers, community groups, unions, and local elected officials came together to say "no" to these cuts and demanded that City Hall rethink its priorities.
All of this hard work and persistence paid off as the City passed a new budget which averts massive layoffs and cuts that could have undermined the future of our city's children.
Highlights:
- 4,100 teacher lay-offs averted
- 20 fire companies saved from closure
- 8,912 child care slots restored
- 105 child protective staff positions saved
