Dear Lucas,
From the beginning of his gubernatorial campaign, Governor Andrew Cuomo made his position clear on his support for an independent commission to ensure fair and non-partisan drawing of redistricting lines. Governor Cuomo has recently reiterated his position to veto a plan that is not independent or a plan that is partisan . We ask that you take action now by emailing Governor Cuomo to support him in his decision to veto any redistricting plans that are not independent.
Here are some recent quotes by Governor Cuomo demonstrating his commitment to redistricting reform ( you can also watch coverage of his comments ):
- "I want to have lines drawn that represent the people of the state of New York."
- "I will veto a plan that is not independent or a plan that is partisan...That's what the people of the state of New York overwhelmingly support."
- When asked if he thought that the current body that draw lines, LATFOR, could produce non-partisan lines, he said: "No, I don't. It's not non-partisan."
Join us in showing Governor Cuomo that we support his commitment to redistricting reform and his pledge to veto any redistricting plan that is not independent -- take action by contacting Governor Cuomo today !
We are also interested to know whether you have received feedback from legislators after taking past Citizens Union actions on redistricting reform. If you have received an email or letter in response, please contact Rachael Fauss, CU's Policy and Research Manager at rfauss@citizensunion.org .
Thank you for your continued participation and advocacy.
Sincerely,
Dick Dadey
