Lucas,
New York has become a battleground state for the natural gas extraction method known as hyrdraulic fracturing -- also known as fracking.
Despite public outcry and extraordinary risks to the environment, the drinking water supply and public health, Governor Cuomo is considering prematurely lifting the current fracking moratorium in parts of the state, in hopes of bringing jobs to New York.
Tell Governor Cuomo not to pander to corporate interests and to protect the water supply of all New Yorkers.
Much of the clamor to bring natural-gas industry jobs is corporate propaganda, largely based on revelations over the last few years that there are enormous natural gas reserves lying beneath New York and Pennsylvania.
The New York Times has recently reported, however, that natural gas companies may be vastly overstating their gas reserves in what could be a giant Ponzi scheme. Perhaps the Marcellus Shale isn't "the Saudi Arabia of natural gas" after all.
Governor Cuomo is jumping the gun and sending the message to industry that New York will be open for dangerous, unregulated drilling.
It is believed that the potential lifting of the moratorium will only take place in certain parts of the state, outside of the watersheds of New York City, Syracuse, and select other municipalities.
Cuomo knows its political suicide to mess with the City's water supply. He must not realize, however, that the state's water system is not localized, but is a vastly interconnected and interdependent system.
Take action today to tell Cuomo not to sell New York out to the frackers!
Thank you for all you do.
Sincerely,
Allison Fisher
