Dear Friend,
Here in New York City, school co-locations (when school's share space) and closures have become a battleground for public schools and charters, pitting parents against parents and ultimately make it harder for our children to succeed in school.
Today, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio stood with fellow parents to announce a new 8-point plan to help bridge this divide and improve the Department of Education's process for school co-locations.
The main goals of the Public Advocate's plan are to stop the 'one size fits all' approach to co-locations by reforming space estimates, ensure that the Department of Education communicates with communities to foster collaboration, and make parents partners in this process.
Bill also appeared on Good Day New York this morning to talk about his new plan, click here to watch the interview .
New York needs education reforms that bring school communities together, instead of dividing them. Please help spread the word about the Public Advocate's plan and be sure to share your comments with Bill on facebook and twitter .
Sincerely,
Matt Wing
Director of Communications
Office of Public Advocate Bill de Blasio
