Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I am Chair of the New York City Bar Association Entertainment Committee.
On Friday evening, January 14th, at 8:00 p.m., our Committee is performing an original musical comedy entitled "The Last Lafayette." The performance will be held at the City Bar, Meeting Hall, 42 West 44th Street. Admission is free (no reservations required, open seating). The show is based on the most scandalous murder trial in Canadian legal history, now set in New York, where a trial lawyer on the cusp of retirement becomes entangled with the "Client from Hell."
This really is a must-see event. The show, which was performed last fall and has been reconstituted as a full musical, has received rave reviews, including from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, which had this to say about our ensemble of stage struck lawyers and judges:
"This entire team of legal aficionados came together with spectacular talent, voices and comedic timing for an evening of very worthwhile entertainment -- proving that even lawyers know how to have fun. Perhaps they all may want to consider giving up their professions and their paychecks to join the tens of thousands of unemployed starving actors of New York City. "
The performance of Hon. Betty Weinberg Ellerin was singled out for special notice, the reviewer stating that "Hon. Betty Weinberg Ellerin, the first female presiding justice of the Appellate Division First Department and currently a Manhattan attorney, fearlessly played the role of Dr. Horvath, a savvy medical doctor called upon to assist a transsexual on trial for murder," concluding that her "natural ability and great comedic timing give even the stars on Broadway a run for their money."

Hope to see you at the City Bar on January 14th, and wishing you a healthy and happy new year!
