Book Signing/Discussion of Tales from the Sausage Factory: Making Laws in New York State
The aphorism "laws are like sausages" lends itself to the title of this political memoir, Tales From the Sausage Factory: Making Laws in New York State (State University of New York Press), by Daniel Feldman, who served in the New York State Legislature from 1981 to 1998, and Gerald Benjamin, a professor of political science at SUNY New Paltz. The book dissects the legislative workings that produced four important pieces of criminal legislation--the 1986 Organized Crime Control Act, reform of the Rockefeller drug laws, Megan's Law and the failed attempt at gun control and liability legislation. The authors provide a detailed dissection of how both inside and outside politics alternately fueled and stymied those bills. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
