MARILYN HORNE'S MHF

marilyn_horner_foundation_photo_nyreblog_com_.jpgIn 1993 the world-renowned mezzo soprano Marilyn Horne founded The Marilyn Horne Foundation, Inc. (MHF) to breathe new life into the vocal recital as an art form across the US.  Ms. Horne was eager to give young vocal recitalists the recital opportunities she had had early in her career, opportunities which so helped in shaping her artistry.

The MHF Mission Statement:  To encourage, support and preserve the art of the vocal recital through the presentation of recitals and related educational activities in communities across the United States.

Since its founding until May 2010, the MHF, through the presentation of recitals, residencies, concerts, radio broadcasts, educational outreach and song commissions, has impacted the following:

·            114 exceptionally gifted young singers who were selected via audition and presented by the MHF in recitals and education programs around the country;

·            66,000+ children across the US via 774 school programs

·            70,607 audience members attending the MHF recitals and master classes;

·            3 million+ radio listeners nationwide via syndicated broadcasts;

·            420,000 radio listeners annually in the Tri-State area via local broadcasts - and tens of thousands more via international webcasts;

·            29 states with 348 recitals of new vocalists;

·            54 concert presenters with whom the MHF partnered to bring song and gifted young artists to their communities;

·            165 college students from leading national music schools selected by audition to participate in the MHF's public master classes;

·            10 composers commissioned by the MHF to write original songs/song cycles to be world-premiered by MHF artists.

As of July 1, 2010, the programs of the MHF become part of the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall.  With Marilyn Horne as the Artistic Advisor, these programs will continue the work of the MHF and will be part of the Marilyn Horne Legacy at Carnegie Hall.  We look forward to seeing you at future programs, including the annual festival, The Song Continues (January 19-23, 2011) and the On Wings of Song vocal recital series, which will be folded into the Neighborhood Concert Series (free concerts in NYC's 5 boroughs).  The new contact information is:
