It is with great sadness that I write to tell you that Judge David G. Trager passed away last night. He was an extraordinary friend, beloved colleague, dean, and trustee. He dramatically changed the trajectory of Brooklyn Law School and he will long be remembered and revered.
Judge Trager had a wide-ranging career. He was a lawyer, a state investigation commissioner, a law school professor and dean, an United States Attorney and a federal judge in the Eastern District of New York.
He was a cherished member of the faculty for 17 years and the Law School's dean for almost eleven years. He was instrumental in attracting nationally renowned and promising new scholars and made the School a magnet for visiting professors from around the world. Under his leadership, the School embarked on what was at the time the most ambitious capital expansion program in its history, including construction of an architecturally acclaimed addition to the School's main building and the purchase of the School's first residence halls. His role in raising the School to new heights was indispensable and his mark on Brooklyn Law School is indelible.
We extend our deepest sympathy to David's wife, Roberta Weisbrod, their children, Mara (Isaac Koyfman), Josiah, and Naomi, grandchildren Nathaniel and Hannah, his brother, Arthur, and the entire family.
The funeral will be tomorrow, Friday, January 7, at 10:00 a.m., at the Kane Street Synagogue in Brooklyn.
Sincerely,
Joan G. Wexler
