Giving Back To The Community - Fulfilling My Pledge To Not Accept A "Lulu" Each year, New York City Council Committee Chairs receive a yearly bonus, or "lulu," ranging from $4,000 to $18,000. As Chairman of the Cultural Affairs, Libraries and International and Intergroup Relations Committee I promised to donate my "lulu" to local non-profits that serve my district. I kept this promise in 2010 and will continue to do so in the future.
Below is a list of organizations that have received personal contributions from me (not from government money) from my bonus:
- The NAACP of Astoria /Long Island City
- Friends of Queensbridge Park
- All Saint's Episcopal Church (Sunnyside)
- Queens Library
- Topaz Arts (Woodside)
- Chocolate Factory Theater (Long Island City)
- New York League of Humane Voters
- Queens Lesbian and Gay Pride Committee
- Love Hallie Foundation (Sunnyside)
- King Manor Museum
