NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, NYC Housing Development Corp. and NYC Housing Authority are responsible for carrying out a 10-year, $7.5 billion plan to add 165,000 affordable housing units by 2014. In February, Mayor Bloomberg announced the infusion of an additional $1 billion in funding for the plan to pick up the pace despite historic economic challenges. In addition, NYCHA was recently awarded $400 million in federal money to renovate 21 NYCHA projects.
