Lucas,
On April 20, 2010, BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 men and setting off the worst oil spill in our country's history.
In response to the Oil Spill Commission's report on the disaster, Public Citizen-- and our allies at the Center for Biological Diversity and the Gulf Restoration Network-- are conducting a special strategy call.
Register now to attend the call next Thursday, February 10 (8:00 p.m. EST) to discuss the commission's findings and brainstorm ways to turn its recommendations into law.
Unfortunately, the tragedy of April 20th and the catastrophe that followed appear to be fading from our policymakers' memories. To date, no oil spill legislation has passed into law, despite a very clear message from the commission's report:
The Deepwater Horizon blowout, explosion, and oil spill did not have to happen. The American public, government, and the oil and gas industry need to understand what went wrong so they can pursue the changes required to prevent such devastating accidents from recurring.
Join our strategy call next Thursday, February 10 (8:00 p.m. EST), to talk about the steps that still need to be taken to prevent another oil disaster.
Very little has changed at the regulatory, legislative or industry level to address the factors that resulted in the this tragic event. But we can change that!
Register now so you can join our strategy call next Thursday.
We look forward to engaging with you on this issue. Let's not let our elected officials forget that they are supposed to serve the public's-- not Big Oil's-- interests!
Talk to you soon,
Allison Fisher
