RESPECT FOR ALL WEEK

new_york_city_council_banner_nyreblog_com_.gifDear New Yorker,

We wanted to share some important news.

This month the NYC Council will be partnering with the NYC Department of Education, the United Federation of Teachers, the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, and community and religious leaders to bring our 2nd Annual Respect for All (RFA) Week to schools across the city.

For the past three years, New York City's Respect for All program has been helping teachers and principals create learning environments where all students feel safe and respected all year round.  These efforts have never been more important than they are today, as we've seen more and more of our young people fall victim to bullying and harassment.

During RFA Week - February 14th through February 18th - students in schools across the five boroughs will participate in programs and activities that teach them to value diversity and respect one another.  They will also receive important information on where to go to for help if they or someone they know has been a victim of bullying or harassment.

All of us can help spread the word about this important initiative by reaching out to the schools in our communities and asking principals what sort of activities they have planned for RFA Week.

Working together, we can help prevent bullying and hatred early on, while ensuring that every child is able to pursue his or her dreams without fear or discrimination.

For more information about our 2nd Annual RFA Week, please visit our RFA webpage at  www.council.nyc.gov/rfa .  You can also e-mail us directly at  speakerquinn@council.nyc.gov

Thanks in advance for helping us spread the word about this important initiative.

Sincerely,

Christine C. Quinn
