February 15 Webinar: Safety of the Blood Supply
Did you know that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of the nation's blood supply?
Learn more when FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research hosts a 30-minute webinar that addresses how the agency safeguards the nation's blood supply and protects the five million people who receive blood transfusions annually.
During the webinar, FDA will discuss the five overlapping layers of blood safety and review current FDA regulations and recommendations established to ensure a safe and available blood supply. An overview of these safeguards will focus on the donor screening process and the testing of blood for blood-borne infectious agents. Steps to insure transfusion safety in the hospital setting will also be discussed.
