You are cordially invited to attend the next general membership meeting of the Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City on Wednesday February 23, 2011, 8:00 - 9:30 PM, at The Center, 208 West 13th Street (between Seventh Avenue and Greenwich Avenue), New York City.
We will conduct the annual election of the club's officers, and will be joined by some distinguished guest speakers, including New York State Senators Adriano Espaillat and Bill Perkins; and Brian Ellner, Senior Strategist of HRC's Campaign for New York Marriage.
New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat:
This trailblazing community activist made history in 1996 when he became the first Dominican-American elected to a state legislature. During his seven terms of service in the New York State Assembly, Adriano Espaillat distinguished himself as a reformer and bridge builder who stood up for working families and small businesses. Last November, he was elected to the New York State Senate to represent the 31st District. This uniquely diverse and dynamic district stretches from Manhattan's Upper West Side through Washington Heights and includes Riverdale, Marble Hill, Inwood, and Hamilton Heights.<

New York State Senator Bill Perkins:
A strong voice in the fight for civil rights and civil liberties, life-long New Yorker Bill Perkins has just been inaugurated to serve his third term representing the 30th Senatorial District, which encompasses Harlem, the Upper West Side and Washington Heights. Bill started his political career as a community activist, had previously served in the New York City Council, and is known for his commitment to serving the community. The young, elderly and the most vulnerable New Yorkers have always been Bill's legislative priorities.

Brian Ellner, Senor Strategist of HRC's Campaign for New York Marriage:
Brian Ellner is a native New Yorker who grew up in Stuyvesant Town and attended the city's public schools. Following a career as an attorney who worked on several landmark civil rights cases, he served as senior aide in the New York City Department of Education. Brian was one of the key architects the Respect for All initiative, and he worked with Chancellor Klein to develop the Education Equality Project. Last summer, Human Rights Campaign tapped Brian Ellner to lead the Campaign for New York Marriage, which aims to help re-elect senators who voted for marriage equality, defeat incumbent opponents and elect fair-minded candidates to open seats.
