SCHUMER RECOMMENDS KATHERINE B. FORREST AND EDGARDO RAMOS TO SERVE ON SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK COURT

Schumer: Both Forrest and Ramos Are First-Rate Legal Minds and Would Make Fantastic Judges on The Southern District of New York Court
On Monday, U.S Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) announced he is recommending Katherine B. Forrest and Edgardo Ramos to serve as judges in the prestigious United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Schumer laid out several reasons that both Forrest and Ramos would be excellent for the job. Schumer pointed to their stellar legal backgrounds, even-handedness, and temperament would make them excellent choices for the bench of the Southern District of New York. As a top-flight lawyer both in private and public practice, Forrest has the demonstrated legal skills and commitment to public service needed for the job. And with a stellar reputation among his fellow lawyers, prosecutors, judges and in the Hispanic community, Schumer said Ramos would make an excellent addition to the court.
"As first-rate lawyers who have served at the highest levels of public and private practice, Forrest and Ramos would make fantastic additions to bench," Schumer said. "Katherine Forrest has excelled at the top of her profession, both at Cravath and at the Department of Justice, and we need her skills on the bench today. And as a former federal prosecutor and esteemed private practice lawyer, Ramos would be a perfect fit for the position. Both have the commitment to public service and top-flight legal skills that we want in our federal judges, and I'm proud to recommend them for the bench."
A graduate of NYU law school and Wesleyan University, Katherine Forrest, joined Cravath, Swaine & Moore straight out of law school and rose to become a litigation partner there in her 20 years at the firm. During that time, she specialized in antitrust and intellectual property, and handled a variety of cases in high profile and complex commercial litigation. In October of 2010, she left Cravath to join the Department of Justice as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the antitrust division. There, she oversees operations of the antitrust division's criminal and civil programs.
Edgardo Ramos is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School, and currently a partner at Day Pitney LLP, where he represents corporations and individuals in federal and state criminal investigations and prosecutions. Ramos served as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York for ten years, where he focused on prosecuting cases involving public corruption, and a variety of fraudulent practices. He also served as a supervisor of the narcotics and money-laundering unit, monitoring a dozen attorneys that investigated large-scale international money-laundering and drug trafficking organizations.
Schumer added, "Both Forrest and Ramos have also worked in New York for decades and that special connection makes them especially well suited for the Southern District of New York. Combined with their extensive legal and professional credentials, I don't think there could be better choices for the court."
