Teens wanting weight loss
![]() |
There are right ways and wrong ways to lose weight. At Temple University, Clare Lenhart looked at data on almost 6,000 high school students in Philadelphia who were obese - about three quarters said they were trying to lose weight.
Lenhart says the teens reported doing some things right - for instance, obese girls were more likely than girls who were not obese to be physically active 60 minutes a day. But they also did some things wrong:
"They were more likely to report consuming soda on a daily basis - and that was specifically among young women. Among young men, they were more likely to report no days of physical activity." (10 seconds)
The study presented at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association was supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
