Working late, shopping late, staying up late to watch the holiday specials or whatever - it all adds up.

Well, actually it subtracts - and dangerously - from being able to drive safely. At the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Daniel Chapman says that what adds up from drowsy driving are hospital visits and deaths:

"Drowsy driving was implicated in about 16 percent of fatal crashes, and about 13 percent of crashes resulting in hospitalization." (8 seconds)

Chapman says one survey reported 28 percent of people said they had fallen asleep behind the wheel in the past year.

Especially in the holiday season, with lots of people taking long road trips, getting the seven to nine hours of sleep that most adults need, may need to be a priority.
