New York International Latino Film Festival The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) has announced a few premieres and highlights from its 12th edition, taking place from August 15-21, 2011, at Clearview Cinemas Chelsea 9 at 260 West 23rd Street between 7th & 8th Aves. and AMC Empire 25 Theatres, at 234 West 42nd Street, New York City. The premiere Latino film festival in the nation kicks off with Cinema Under the Stars, a free outdoor screening on Monday, August 15 at St. Nicholas Park/135th St. and opens officially with its Opening Night red carpet event on Tuesday, August 16. NYILFF continues through the week with star-studded red carpet premieres every night culminating with Awards Night on Sunday, August 21. NYLIFF will present over 100 features, documentaries and short films in English and Spanish, which reflect America's cultural diversity. New York Salsa Congress The New York International Salsa Congress Dance & Music Festival (NYISC), the world's largest multicultural music and dance extravaganza, celebrates its 11th anniversary with over 25,000 people from around the world. This year's festival is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for The American Diabetes Association. Hosted by 97.9 LA MEGA's J.I. Starr, this year is even bigger than last, with a LIVE concert series each night with Eddie Torres & The Mambo King Orchestra, and Jerry Hernandez & La Orchestra Dee Jay (Thursday, September 1st), Mambo Legends (Friday, September 2), Frankie Morales & The Mambo of the Times Orchestra and Charansalsa (Saturday, September 3), and Papo Pepin & Su Orchestra and a blow-out finale performance by one of salsa's oldest and most beloved bands, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico (Sunday, September 4).
