About this volunteer opportunity

Description

WHAT?

The Future Project is currently seeking passionate and motivated young people (professionals, college students, grad students) in New York City and inviting them to apply to be Future Coaches for one year.

HOW?

The idea is simple: As a Future Coach, you will be paired with one high school student partner called a Future Fellow. Together, you join a team of other partners that meet weekly for 90 minutes and take on challenges together. Over the course of the year you scheme, plan, think big, and ultimately create a project that makes a difference in your community. This project could be anything--a film, a hip-hop concert, a website, a community farm, a tech invention--just as long as it begins and ends with passion.

Through the program you and your student partner learn new skills - the type they don't teach in school - and have an opportunity to turn cool ideas into reality together. The effect of this sort of action could be catalytic in a student's life.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?

For volunteers, this is a chance to be creative, to explore new fields and interests with an energetic high school partner, to network with like-minded people, to learn and try out new professional skills such as leadership and management, and most importantly to make an enormous difference in a kid's life in a big way. All it takes is roughly 90 minutes a week for one school year.

Requirements

Interested candidates must APPLY before our FINAL APPLICATION DEADLINE on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd, through our website, www.thefutureproject.org . The application consists of an online written component and a 30-minute in person interview.

Applicants should be college students, graduate students, or young professionals--that is, young adults-- who live in New York City or can easily commute to the city. Every applicant must be at least 18 years of age, and possess a high school diploma or the equivalent. Volunteers must be able to meet with their partners for 90-minutes at the same time each week. The program lasts twenty weeks, starting in mid-October and ending in early May.

Selected applicants will undergo a fingerprint background check.

Mandatory Future Coach training will be held in early October, and partnerships will begin shortly thereafter.
