IT'S ABOUT LIFE

"Across this country, millions of people with disabilities are working or want to work, and they should have access to the support and services they need to succeed. That's why I've asked the responsible agencies to develop new plans and policies to help increase employment across America for people with disabilities."

 President Barack Obama

In October 2009, President Barack Obama announced a groundbreaking initiative to increase the employment of people with disabilities in the Federal Workforce. One of the steps in the initiative is a hiring event for individuals with disabilities. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) met this challenge by hosting its very first Hiring Event for People with Disabilities in August of 2010. Based on the success of this Event, for both applicants and the NIH Community, we will be sponsoring another INVITATION-ONLY Event in early June.

Eligibility Requirements:

Using the Schedule A appointing authority, found at 5 CFR ยง 213.3102(u), qualified candidates who meet the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) guidelines can be hired non-competitively to an appointment in the excepted service. After successfully completing 2 years, you may be converted to the competitive service.
