FILMMAKER DIES IN LIBYA

Markowitz Press Release.JPGBP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON DEATH OF BROOKLYN-BASED FILMMAKER TIM HETHERINGTON AND WOUNDING OF WAR PHOTOGRAPHER AND BROOKLYNITE CHRIS HONDROS IN LIBYA

"Brooklyn extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Brooklyn-based Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker Tim Hetherington, who was killed in Misrata, Libya, after being hit by mortar fire in an attack that left Brooklynite Chris Hondros of Getty Images gravely wounded. These two men were doing what they did best--reporting to the world about the horrors of war. Mr. Hetherington was a proud Brooklynite by way of England, and Mr. Hondros recently photographed the AIDS quilt on display at Brooklyn Borough Hall for our World AIDS Day observance last December. I join all of Brooklyn in praying for Mr. Hondros' full recovery, and hope Mr. Hetherington's loved ones will be comforted by the prayers and thoughts of all of us grateful for his professional sacrifice."
