Did you know that this year marked the 90th anniversary of women's suffrage and the 37th anniversary of Roe v. Wade?
Our country has come a long way in just a few generations.
But whenever I'm confronted with a Carly Fiorina -- someone who has rarely voted in the past, but now wants people to trust her with their vote -- or Sarah Palin -- who endorsed Fiorina based on her hard-right stance on choice -- I'm reminded of both how fragile the hard-won victories for women's equality are, and how far we still have to go.
These two have joined forces to try and turn back women's rights by attacking one of today's greatest champions -- Barbara Boxer. It's time for all of us to take a stand.
I've been working to elect pro-choice women for 25 years, and I've known Barbara for just as long. And I know for a fact you can count on her to fight relentlessly for what's right -- no matter the consequences.
When women didn't get their fair share of health research dollars, Barbara corrected the parity. When equal pay for equal work was on the floor, Barbara led the charge to pass the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. And when the next fight for women's rights is before us, you can bet that, again, it will be Barbara who keeps us moving forward when the right wing tries to push us back.
She won't back down, because, like me, she knows what is at stake.
Like Sarah Palin, Carly Fiorina is determined to turn back time and turn back our nation's progress. In fact, Fiorina has already announced that she would work to roll back a woman's right to choose.
Like the people who joined together to fight for a woman's right to vote, and a woman's right to choose, it is once again the time to fight.
Barbara is a champion for women's rights - and that has made her a top target for the right wing. With so much at stake, we can't afford to lose a champion for women's equality.
