Lucas,
Thermometer showing $86,062 to go to reach $300,000 fundraising goal.
Click the thermometer and help us turn up the heat in the fight against corporate power.

One year ago, the fuse was lit.

That's when the U.S. Supreme Court held a special session to rehear the now infamous Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case that led to the disastrous decision allowing corporations to spend as much money as they want influencing our elections.

Public Citizen will not stand by while corporations take over our very democracy. Join us!

This is a critical time. A generous supporter will match your contribution dollar-for-dollar up to $300,000! But that offer is good for just 12 more days, and we have $86,062 to go. Contribute today!

Our worst predictions about the Supreme Court ruling are coming true.

The parent company of Fox News contributed $1 million to the Republican Governors Association. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is spending $75 million to attack progressive political leaders. Shadowy corporate front groups like Karl Rove's American Crossroads and the billionaire Koch brothers' Americans for Prosperity are planning to flood our electoral system with hundreds of millions of dollars.

Public Citizen is fighting back. And we need your support.

Public Citizen is working tirelessly - meeting with representatives and senators, mobilizing our members, and organizing like-minded groups - to counteract the Supreme Court's recklessness.

The campaign for a constitutional amendment to overturn the decision is fast gaining steam. Hundreds of thousands of people have signed petitions calling for an amendment, and more than 100 congressional candidates have pledged to support an amendment.

Public Citizen is also pushing a range of immediate legislative responses, with some victories within sight:

The DISCLOSE Act would force corporations to disclose the names of those who make political contributions that go directly to candidates or front groups used for funneling money to political campaigns.

The Fair Elections Now Act would give congressional candidates a public financing alternative to elections bankrolled by corporations and address the corrosive influence of corporate spending in elections for local, judicial and state candidates.

The Shareholder Protection Act would empower stockholders to stop activist CEOs from spending a corporation's money on electioneering.

Our all-out effort requires significant resources. I am counting on Public Citizen supporters like you to give us the help we need to get this critical legislation through Congress and on President Obama's desk.

Contribute now and help us raise $86,062 more to make the most of this extraordinary matching gift offer. Remember, your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar!

You are integral to our campaign to stop this assault on our democracy. Everyone at Public Citizen is so very appreciative of your generosity and activism. Please stand with us now and help take back our democracy from corporate domination.

Thank you.

Robert Weissman, President

P.S. Every donation Public Citizen receives by September 21 will be matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact of your support. Please contribute now.
