North Carolina Prepared for Hurricane Earl
In North Carolina, we have a lot of experience with hurricanes and we are ready. Local, state and federal authorities have been working together for days and we are prepared. Shelters are open, FEMA, the National Guard, the Red Cross, other relief organizations and law enforcement have been activated.
Like many of you, I have been following Hurricane Earl constantly for the last few days. The latest news we have indicates that the storm is a Category 3 hurricane that will brush the Outer Banks overnight. The worst of the storm will be felt near Cape Hatteras around 2 a.m.
Evacuations are ongoing. We have mandatory evacuations for tourists and voluntary evacuations for residents. Please stay vigilant and stay safe. When deciding whether to leave or stay, safe is better than sorry.
But once the storm passes, I want everyone to know that North Carolina is open for business and I hope that we all can enjoy a wonderful Labor Day Weekend at the beach, mountains or anywhere else you choose to spend the holiday.
